Monarch emergence is one of my favorite things to witness. What I’ve been coming to realize is that all the stages are equal, that the egg, caterpillar, and chrysalis are vital–equally valuable to each other and to the world. It all just keeps cycling.

The butterfly is not “the end”, nor is getting enlightened to some truth and experiencing freedom. What if the “wasted” days spent under the blanket watching Netflix are just as valuable and necessary as the joyous days spent mindfully dancing in the sun, or ones when we get tons of work done?

Emotions, enlightenment, and developmental stages are not constant no matter how hard we try. Would you scold a caterpillar for going into a cocoon and forgetting that he is also a butterfly? Would you scold the butterfly for taking too long emerging?

Does it make any sense for us to do that to ourselves?
